Natural Gas Reciprocating Engine Operator - Learn More
Summary
A Natural Gas Recip Engine Operator manages the operation of equipment used to process and distribute natural gas for utility providers. Their responsibilities include monitoring system performance, adjusting controls to regulate gas flow and pressure, and ensuring operations run safely and efficiently. Key duties involve operating VHP generators, maintaining detailed logs, and coordinating with fellow operators to support smooth operations.
Candidates will be required to take basic training for onshore safety awareness.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on VHP natural gas generator sets.
- Works safely and effectively with minimum supervision while striving full time availability of equipment
- Disassembles, repairs and reassembles components and equipment to ensure proper alignment, balance and tolerances
- Performs operator duties where appropriate to improve operating efficiency
- Assist in the development and implementation of preventative maintenance and suggest improvements.
- Tracks and organizes data collected during field work and reports identified issues to the appropriate individual(s)
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Ability to use variety of hand tools, machine tools and precision measure instruments required
- Knowledge of safety aspects when handling tools and working around natural gas engines and generators.
- Strong written and verbal communication with both internal and external customers
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Willingness to work at heights, walk on high elevation grating and to walk up and down stairs with or without accommodation

Minimum Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Preferred technical certification or associate degree in diesel/gas engine technology, industrial mechanics, or a
- related field preferred.
- 3 or more years of equipment troubleshooting
- 3 or more years of mechanical knowledge
- Preferred Basic knowledge of a VHP natural gas engine and their components
Physical Requirements
- Bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 75 pounds occasionally
- Must be able to push/pull 100 pounds occasionally
- Wearing a respirator when/where required to perform inspections/job duties
- Wearing hearing protection within high level noise areas as required
- Wearing eye protection

The engineer will also contribute to troubleshooting, performance analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Job Duties and Key Responsibilities
● Design, develop, and improve mechanical systems with emphasis on power generators and rotating equipment.
● Oversee installation, commissioning, and testing of mechanical systems.
● Conduct troubleshooting and root cause analysis of generator and mechanical system failures.
● Develop and maintain technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, and reports.

Under supervision, this role is responsible for operating natural gas pressure reduction systems and other equipment. Tasks include operating high-pressure equipment, quality testing, proper documentation, and maintaining awareness of environmental and health safety.
Candidates will be required to take basic training for onshore safety awareness.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and maintain various field equipment/ systems such as pressure reduction systems.
- Responsible for ensuring proper flows, temperatures, and pressure levels.
- Responsible for loading and unloading of trailers.
- Organize products and maintain the cleanliness on customer site.
- Act as a primary link for communication between operators and management and monitors inventory control measures.
- Bring any issues to the attention of management.
- Adhere to required Company Trainings, Policies, and Procedures.
Experience, Skills, and Characteristics
